In the first game, the boys trailed the Rochester Americans early, but stormed back to a 6-3 win. The 2nd game of the day was a hard fought 1-1 tie against the host Buffalo Regals. A record of 2-0-1 had the team heading into the semis as the # 1 seed.
On Sunday morning, the boys beat the Rochester Monarchs 2-0 to head to the state finals, where they would meet their rival, the Westchester Express. Unfortunately, they boys fell in the final game 7-3.
It was a great way to end the year for 2001 Long Island Gulls. Finishing 2nd in the state is quite an accomplishment. The coaching staff was very proud of the whole team on "what was a total team effort all weekend".

Gulls Bantam Majors State Champions....Headed to Nationals
The Gulls '97 team headed to West Seneca this past weekend to compete in the NYSAHA Tier 1 14U state championships. In the first game on Friday, they were able to defeat the host West Seneca Wings 6-1 in their own building. In the second game, the Gulls were matched up with the Syracuse Nationals and were able to pull out another win with a 6-2 victory. This win ensured a place in the semi final game on Sunday. The Buffalo Regals also had already secured there place in the semi finals, and the Gulls were set to battle them for the top seed in the crossover. After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Gulls gave up 4 unanswered goals, and trailed the Regals 4-2 deep into the third period. They were able to battle back and tie the game 4-4, ensuring the top seed because of the goal differential tiebreaker.
In the semi finals, the Gulls fell into a 2-0 hole against the Rochester Alliance heading into the 2nd period of play. They exploded for a 5 goal 2nd period en route to a 6-3 win and an opportunity to play in the State Finals.
After upsetting the Buffalo Regals in the semi final, the Gulls drew LIAHL rival Westchester Express. A back and forth game saw the Gulls leading 3-2 entering the third where they were able to score another 4 goals on their way to a 7-3 victory. The win not only secured a state championship, but a bid to the National Championships in Buffalo, NY on March 28th. Head coach Mike Bracco stated that "it was so great to see this team battle through this tournament they way they did. I have been with a lot of these players since mites, and I know all of them deserve an opportunity to play in the national tournament. I am very proud of them all".

| Fusaro Commits to West Point | | | | | | |
by mc posted 11/09/2011 Brandon Fusaro is the most recent former Gulls '96 to commit to college. Brandon has chosen to play his college hockey at West Point Military Academy. He joins former teammates Hitchcock and Willett as early commits to Division 1 colleges.
Brandon is a high powered offensive threat who is going to be able to offer a lot to the Army lineup as soon as he arrives on campus. Brandon has moved on to Applecore this season where he has been among the leading scorers on his team.
The Gulls would like to congratulate Brandon and his family on his college choice. We would also like to wish him the best of luck the rest of this season and his future four years at West Point. Back to top

’97 Long Island Gulls Win Silver Sticks Qualifier – Advance to Port Huron
September 28, 2011
The 1997 Bantam Major Long Island Gulls won their 5th Regional Silver Sticks Championship this past weekend at Ice Line Arena in West Chester, PA and will advance to the International Tournament held in Port Huron, MI in January. The team, coached by Michael Bracco, had to dig deep and won the tournament in dramatic fashion.
In the first two games, the Gulls skated to victories over Tampa Bay 3-0 and Team Maryland 3-2. In game 3, the Gulls found themselves matched up against AYHL rival New Jersey Rockets. The high powered Rockets took it to the Gulls for a 3-1 win. This early loss may have been just what the team needed. The 2-1 record was good enough to advance to the Semi-Finals where the Gulls met up with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights. The Gulls came out strong and skated to a 4-2 victory setting up a championship match against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.
At the drop of the puck, the Jr. Flyers were all over the Gulls. After two periods, the game seemed all but over with the Jr. Flyers up 3-0. Coach Bracco rallied his troops for one last charge. To leave everything they had on the ice. One goal after another, the Gulls fought their way back. The Jr. Flyers found themselves against a team on a mission. Long Island scored five 3rd period goals to win the 2011 Bantam Major Mid-Atlantic Region Silver Stick Tournament.
"This is our 5th Regional Silver Stick Championship as 97 Gulls, which is an incredible accomplishment,” said Coach Michael Bracco. “I have coached these boys since they were Mites and this truly attests to the hard work and dedication of these kids through the years. This win is the sweetest one yet because of how we continue to grow and learn to play together as a team. I continue to be proud of coaching such a great group of young men."

Last season with the Bantam Major Long Island Gulls, Hitchcock amassed 30 goals and 28 assists in just 27 games.
“Yale was one of the first schools to show an interest,” said Hitchcock. “When you get the chance to go to an Ivy League school, you accept. It is the total package. A great education and the oldest college hockey program in the United States. I’m excited to suit up for the Bulldogs.”
Dan Willett verbally committed to Head Coach Jim Madigan and Northeastern University. Dan will also play with Hitchcock on the Rockets this season. He tallied 13 goals and 9 assists in 27 games with the Bantam Major Gulls last year.
“This is such a great moment in my life,” offered Willett. “This happened so quickly and I would like to thank the coaching staff and my family for their support and advice during this process. I can’t wait for the next step in my playing career.”
